PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING DONALD DEW FOR HIS TIRELESS LEADERSHIP, DEDICATION, AND COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE AND SERVICE IN COOK COUNTY

 

WHEREAS, Donald Dew has served as President/CEO of Habilitative Systems, Inc. (HSI), a vital Chicago-based health and human services organization providing program and services for thousands of children and families in need since 1984; and

 

WHEREAS, Donald Dew is a graduate of Harvard University/s Business School,” Strategic Perspectives in Non- Profit Management Program; and

 

WHEREAS, He received his Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree in 1980 form Jane Adams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois; B.A. in Social Work from Lewis University in 1978, where he currently serves as Adjunct Facility for Organizational Leadership within the College of Arts and Sciences; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1991-1992 Donald Dew was a Fellow in the Leadership Greater Chicago Program presented by the Chicago Community Trust, earned his Certification in Business Administration from the University of Illinois in 1992 and became a Switzer Scholar in 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Donald Dew, HSI has employed workers with disabilities to manufacture pillows to various airlines and Amtrak, developed Ameritech-HIS Bill Payment Center; acquired a Service Master franchise; developed HIS Research Institute; secured over 20 million dollars over the past 15 years from HUD and the Chicago Department of Housing to develop 160 units of senior and disability housing; and

 

WHEREAS, Donald Dew has been the receipt of numerous awards throughout his career. They include: 1997 National Association of Black Journalists Community Service Award; 1998 Lewis University Distinguished Alumni Award, 2005 RUSH University Medical Center MLK Humanitarian Award and the 2012 Westside Minister’s Coalition Human Service Award just to name a few. In addition, he also is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, National Association of Black Social Workers and an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. NU Pi Chapter; and

 

WHEREAS, Cook County Government acknowledges Donald Dew for transforming lives through Habilitative Systems, Inc. (HSI) providing quality health and human services.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on behalf of the President, the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the 5. 4 million residents of Cook County take great pleasure in honoring and celebrating Mr. Donald Dew for his leadership, dedication and commitment as President and CEO of Habilitative Systems, Inc. herewith express our sincere gratitude for your service to the community.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution is spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to Mr. Donald Dew in honor of this auspicious occasion
