PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION HONORING JERRY REINSDORF FOR HIS EFFORTS TO FIGHT GUN VIOLENCE IN CHICAGO
WHEREAS, Jerry Reinsdorf is the chairman of the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reinsdorf purchased the White Sox in 1981 and the Bulls in 1985, etching him a permanent place in Chicago sports history, and
WHEREAS, since that time, Mr. Reinsdorf has worked to not only build championship teams but to improve the quality of life for Chicagoans who are struggling, and
WHEREAS, for the last four years, Mr. Reinsdorf has sponsored a Community Unity Day at the White Sox Park in conjunction with the County Board's First District, which has served as a fun, relaxing way for families who have been the victims of gun violence to come together and enjoy a baseball game, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reinsdorf has also worked to combine efforts with the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls to fight Chicago's gun violence issue, which resulted in $1 million being donated to three organizations: the youth therapy program Choose 2 Change, analyst training for technology centers in Chicago police stations, and the University of Chicago Crime Lab, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reinsdorf through the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls has consistently supported organizations seeking to improve the lives of disadvantaged youth in Cook County. Some of the organizations supported include: Becoming A Man (BAM), The READI program, and KaBoom which builds playgrounds, basketball courts and baseball fields, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reinsdorf has a long history of fighting to improve the quality of life for children in Cook County, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Reinsdorf has worked tirelessly to build two of Chicago's sports teams as well as the communities they represent for many years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Cook County Board of Commissioners that Mr. Jerry Reinsdorf is honored for his dedication to all of...
