PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING TOM SKILLING ON HIS 40TH ANNIVERSARY AT WGN
WHEREAS, Tom Skilling is the chief meteorologist for Chicago’s Very Own WGN-TV, and
WHEREAS, Tom recently celebrated his 40th anniversary at WGN reporting on the weather and making sure all of Chicago was prepared for what it would bring, and
WHEREAS, Tom started his career on the radio while he attended high school in Aurora before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and
WHEREAS, after college, Tom was a meteorologist at WITI in Milwaukee, and
WHEREAS, by 1978, Tom returned to Chicago and began working at WGN, and
WHEREAS, since that time, Tom has risen to become one of the most preeminent meteorologists in Chicago and the United States, and
WHEREAS, Tom was the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s 2018 broadcaster pioneer, recognizing his 40-year career in Illinois, and
WHEREAS, Tom has not only reported on weather impacting Chicago for four decades, but he has used his platform to educate his viewers on weather safety ranging from tornadoes to heat waves to polar vortexes, and
WHEREAS, Tom has also dedicated much of his time to discussing climate change and the effects it will continue to have on Chicago and the entire world, and
WHEREAS, each evening, scores of Cook County residents rely on Tom’s reporting to know what the weather holds in store for them, as they’ve done for more than four decades.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners that WGN-TV’s Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling is honored for his more than 40 years of service to the people of Cook County and thanked for his continued work and dedication to the meteorological field.
