PROPOSED RESOLUTION
MANUFACTURING AWARENESS AND APPRECIATION MONTH, OCTOBER 2018
WHEREAS, Cook County in partnership with the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will and the City of Chicago, the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium, was designated an ‘Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership’ Community by the United States Department of Commerce in June, 2014 and 2016; and
WHEREAS, northeastern Illinois is a leading manufacturing center whose metal manufacturers generate more than $18 billion in annual revenues and act as a driver of regional economic development; and
WHEREAS, more than 3800 fabricated metal and machinery manufacturing firms located in the metro Chicago area that provide well-paying manufacturing jobs for 115,000 employees and contribute to broad-based prosperity; and
WHEREAS, Cook County in partnership with the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium are collaborating with manufacturers, educational institutions and workforce providers, nonprofits, trade associations, and economic development organizations to support and strengthen the region’s manufacturing sector; and
WHEREAS, the National Association of Manufacturers have designated October 5, 2018 as National Manufacturing Day and October as Manufacturing Awareness and Appreciation month; and
WHEREAS, manufacturers, educational institutions, and other organizations in Cook County will be hosting events on October 5, 2018 and throughout the month of October to showcase the skilled and well-paying jobs afforded by a career in manufacturing, to support and promote a positive public image of manufacturing, and to ensure the continued growth of the manufacturing industry; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim October 2018 as Manufacturing Awareness and Appreciation Month in Cook County, Illinois and urge all residents to join in recognizing the important role of manufacturing.
