PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING NATIONAL MUSEUM OF GOSPEL MUSIC AND DON JACKSON
WHEREAS, the National Museum of Gospel Music is the nation’s first museum dedicated to celebrating the impact of the Gospel music industry; and
WHEREAS, the National Museum of Gospel Music will be constructed at the former site of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Chicago’s Bronzeville community, the church of its late long-time music director Dr. Thomas Dorsey, who is recognized as the father of Gospel music; and
WHEREAS, through the National Museum of Gospel Music, the lives and legacy of Gospel music will be preserved and accessible to the public via a state-of-the art facility; and
WHEREAS, Don Jackson is the Founder and Chairman of the National Museum of Gospel Music, and
WHEREAS, Don Jackson is the Chief Executive Officer of Central City Productions, Inc., a national television production, sales, and syndication company based in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Don Jackson is the founder of the Steller Gospel Music Awards, the first and oldest television awards show honoring Gospel Music Artist for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Don Jackson is recognized as a civic leader for his community involvement as the former Board Chairman of the DuSable Museum of African American History and has served on the boards of the Chicago Transit Authority, Columbia College, the Gateway Foundation, Junior Achievement of Chicago, and Northwestern University; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, honor the National Museum of Gospel Music and founder Don Jackson and praise their essential contribution to the cultural viability of Cook County.
