PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE CHICAGO CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK JOURNALISTS ON RECEIVING THE 2018 PROFESSIONAL CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD
WHEREAS, the National Association of Black Journalists is an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provide quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide; and
WHEREAS, every year, the National Association of Black Journalists recognizes one outstanding professional affiliate chapter with the Professional Chapter of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious award is given to the Professional Chapter which has demonstrated exceptional programs and activities in their community; and
WHEREAS, the 2018 Professional Chapter of the Year was awarded to the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists at the 43rd National Association of Black Journalist Convention and Career Fair in Detroit, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, throughout its 43-year history in Chicago, the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists has convened Chicago-area African-American journalists dedicated to truth and excellence in newsgathering and reporting, and equality in the media industry; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago Chapter has partnered with local organizations, such as the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, to host job fairs for diverse candidates seeking careers in media and co-sponsored with CBS2 Chicago a political candidates’ forum; and
WHEREAS, this achievement is a testament to the Chicago Chapter’s extraordinary leadership and dedication to excellence in news reporting, equality in the media industry, fair representation of our regional diversity and leadership in our communities; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby congratulate the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists on the occasion of receiving the 2018 National Association of Black Journalists Professional Affiliate Chapter of the Year Award; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of same be tendered to the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists to recognize their remarkable achievements and dedication to the region.
