WHEREAS Almighty God in His infinite wisdom has called George Herbert Walker Bush from our midst; and

WHEREAS George Herbert Walker Bush was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Pierce), and

WHEREAS George Herbert Walker Bush was the devoted father of George, Robin, Jeb, Neil, Marvin and Dorothy

WHEREAS, In 1974, President Gerald Ford appointed Bush as the U.S. envoy to the People's Republic of China and in 1975 President Gerald Ford asked Bush to serve as the new director of the Central Intelligence Agency; and

WHEREAS, George Herbert Walker Bush ran for president in 1980 and was defeated in the Republican primary by Ronald Reagan, who chose him as his running mate in his successful bid for presidency. During his eight-year tenure as Vice President, Bush headed task forces on deregulation and the war on drugs; and

WHEREAS in 1988, George Herbert Walker Bush was elected President of the United States, defeating his Democratic opponent Michael Dukakis, becoming the first incumbent vice president in 152 years to be elected president; and
