PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING CHRISTMAS IN THE WARDS
WHEREAS, since 1996, Christmas in the Wards serves the needs of our area’s most vulnerable children and families in the South and West Sides of the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Christmas in the Wards brings smiles, joy, and the true spirit of the holidays to thousands of deserving families by personally shopping for each family; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Larry Huggins, CEO and owner of Riteway-Huggins Construction and Everett Rand, President and CEO of Midway Wholesale Beverage, Inc., Christmas in the Wards has raised almost two million dollars through sponsorships, donations and in-kind contributions; and
WHEREAS, this year, Christmas in the Wards began a “Laptops for Students Campaign” with support levels so all members of the community, from individuals to businesses, can participate; and
WHEREAS, the support Christmas in the Wards provides to local families in Chicago and around Cook County during this time of year ensures that thousands will share in the happiness and magic of the holiday season; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, recognize Christmas in the Wards for its essential contribution to the health and viability of Cook County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Christmas in the Wards.
