Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING REVEREND TYONE D. HUGHES INSTALLATION AS SENIOR PASTOR OF THIRD BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHICAGO WHEREAS, Third Baptist Church of Chicago was founded on February 28, 1962 by Reverend Elmer L. Fowler to serve the spiritual needs of the residents on the South Side of Chicago; and WHEREAS, Reverend Elmer L. Fowler served as Senior Pastor for 30 years. Upon his retirement in December 1992, Reverend Fowler continued as Pastor Emeritus until he was called to be home with the Lord on May 28, 2003; and WHEREAS, in November 1992, Reverend Alan V. Ragland was selected as the second Senior Pastor of Third Baptist Church of Chicago; and WHEREAS, under the leadership of Reverend Alan V. Ragland, the church grew into a prominent congregation that provided recreation and support services for its members and the surrounding Washington Heights community; and WHEREAS, Reverend Alan V. HONORING REVEREND TYONE D. HUGHES INSTALLATION AS SENIOR PASTOR OF THIRD BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHICAGO

 

WHEREAS, Third Baptist Church of Chicago was founded on February 28, 1962 by Reverend Elmer L. Fowler to serve the spiritual needs of the residents on the South Side of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Elmer L. Fowler served as Senior Pastor for 30 years. Upon his retirement in December 1992, Reverend Fowler continued as Pastor Emeritus until he was called to be home with the Lord on May 28, 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, in November 1992, Reverend Alan V. Ragland was selected as the second Senior Pastor of Third Baptist Church of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Reverend Alan V. Ragland, the church grew into a prominent congregation that provided recreation and support services for its members and the surrounding Washington Heights community; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Alan V. Ragland was instrumental in the church’s expansion efforts. Due to his hard work and dedication, Third Baptist Church of Chicago opened a four-story church, education, and life center on October 12, 2005; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Tyone D. Hughes began serving as the Associate Pastor of Third Baptist Church of Chicago in 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to Third Baptist Church of Chicago, Reverend Tyone D. Hughes led a successful 20-year career in the investment services industry where he advised and managed clients with assets over $25 million dollars for Chase Investment Services and J.P. Morgan; and

 

WHEREAS, in November 2018, Reverend Alan V. Ragland announced his retirement after 26 years as Senior Pastor. Shortly thereafter, the Third Baptist Church of Chicago announced the selection of Reverend Tyone D. Hughes as its new Senior Pastor; and

 

WHEREAS, Third Baptist Church of Chicago will host an Installation Service on March 24, 2019 to celebrate Reverend Tyone D. Hughes as the third Senior Pastor in its 56-year history; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Tyone D. Hughes’ visionary leadership will continue to elevate the church as it further extends its ministry into the community as an inclusive and welcoming place for all people in the neighborhood and throughout the City of Chicago; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED, that the President and Members of the Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, congratulates the Reverend Tyone D. Hughes for being installed as the Senior Pastor of the Third Baptist Church of Chicago; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceeding of this Honorable Body in recognition of the Reverend Tyone D. Hughes and Third Baptist Church of Chicago.end
