Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE MAINE WEST HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR 2019 IHSA GIRLS 4A BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND UNDEFEATED 35-0 SEASON WHEREAS, the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are proud to recognize excellence in high school athletics and the importance of team sports in developing the qualities of teamwork, respect, hard work and dedication in young adults; and WHEREAS, the Maine West Warriors Girls Basketball Team displayed all of those qualities and worked together to achieve a remarkable season by going a perfect 35-0 and earning the Warriors the 2019 IHSA Girls 4A Basketball State Championship; and WHEREAS, the 2019 Maine West Girls Basketball Team has joined elite company by becoming the first undefeated girls champion since Quincy Notre Dame went 30-0 in 3A in 2013 and the first in 4A since Whitney Young went 34-0 in 2012; and WHEREAS, the Warriors achieved their perfect 35-0 record by defeating 33 of 35 opponents by t...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING THE MAINE WEST HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR 2019 IHSA GIRLS 4A BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND UNDEFEATED 35-0 SEASON

 

WHEREAS, the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are proud to recognize excellence in high school athletics and the importance of team sports in developing the qualities of teamwork, respect, hard work and dedication in young adults; and

 

WHEREAS, the Maine West Warriors Girls Basketball Team displayed all of those qualities and worked together to achieve a remarkable season by going a perfect 35-0 and earning the Warriors the 2019 IHSA Girls 4A Basketball State Championship; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2019 Maine West Girls Basketball Team has joined elite company by becoming the first undefeated girls champion since Quincy Notre Dame went 30-0 in 3A in 2013 and the first in 4A since Whitney Young went 34-0 in 2012; and

 

WHEREAS, the Warriors achieved their perfect 35-0 record by defeating 33 of 35 opponents by ten points or more and concluded their amazing season by defeating Mother McAuley 58-46 in the 4A Final to clinch the title of State Champions; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2019 4A state title marked the second state championship for the Maine West Girls Basketball program and the 35-0 undefeated season also matched the perfect 35-0 season of the 1988 Maine West Girls Basketball state champions; and  

 

WHEREAS, team members Melissa Gomez, Sarah Magnoni, Brianna Hernandez, Jane Rothweiler, Rachel Kent, Maria Buniao, Ellie Centella, Yessenia Vilchis, Dylan Van Fleet, Vanessa Reyes, Jocelyn Jacob, Lena Albo, Angela Dugalic, Rachel Gorcyca and Jade Thomas displayed exceptional teamwork, commitment and brilliant execution on the basketball court in all 35 games of their season; and

 

WHEREAS, Head Coach Kim de Marigny and Assistant Coaches Lance Newman, Bryan Aloisio, Jerry Stonequist are to be congratulated for providing exemplary instruction and leadership in guiding the Maine West Girls Basketball Team through a tremendous season and impressive championship run; and

 

WHEREAS, the Maine West Warriors Girls Basketball program has had a rich and storied history for more than 30 years where it was grown and nurtured into an elite program under the leadership of IHSA Hall of Fame coach Derril Kipp, and now that successful tradition carries on under Head Coach Kim de Marigny; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners join their family, friends, school and community in congratulating the team members and coaching staff of the Maine West Warriors Girls Basketball Team on their outstanding achievements and their extraordinary level of teamwork, respect, hard work and dedication.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOVLVED that this resolution be spread across the official text of the proceedings of this honorable body and that suitable copies hereof be presented to each member of the team and coaching staff.
