PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE CHICAGO (IL) ALUMNI CHAPTER OF KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC. ON THEIR 100TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., is a predominantly African-American membership collegiate fraternity founded on January 5, 1911 at Indiana University Bloomington; and
WHEREAS, the fraternity has never limited membership based on color, creed or national origin and has over 160,000 members with 837 undergraduate and alumni chapters in every state of the United States, and international chapters in the United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, Japan, United States Virgin Islands, Nigeria, and South Africa; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on April 17, 1919 in the city of Chicago as the first alumni chapter of the fraternity; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered by Kappa Alpha Psi Founder Byron K. Armstrong and seven other esteemed men of the fraternity; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was established following the end of World War I and has selected men of high standard, which epitomizes the fraternity's fundamental purpose of achievement; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has continuously sponsored programs which provided community service, social welfare and academic scholarships over the past century; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. are engaged in every field of human endeavor and continue to distinguish themselves in service to the State of Illinois, County of Cook and City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are pleased to congratulate the members of the Chicago (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. on the occasion of the chapter's 100th anniversary;
