PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING RONALD M. SERPICO FOR RECEIVING THE GUERIN PREP COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD
WHEREAS, Guerin Prep High School each year bestows its Community Leadership Award upon a leader who has exhibited vision and demonstrated leadership to the community; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico has served as Mayor of the Village of Melrose Park since 1997; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico has deep family roots in the Village of Melrose Park, having graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in 1966 and Proviso East in 1970. Ron and his wife, Donna, have three children and are the proud grandparents of nine grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Illinois State University and received his Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law in 1977; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico, inspired by his immigrant grandfather Domenico's vision of the American Dream, first ran for office to focus on the hopes, dreams, and concerns of all of the residents of Melrose Park; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Ronald Serpico has ushered in an economic turnaround in Melrose Park. He was responsible for the Melrose Park Water Project, a water transmission system that will ensure a steady flow of clean water for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico was also instrumental in making major infrastructure improvements in all sections of the village, including a railroad overpass and a planned retail and industrial development at the site of the former Maywood Park Racetrack; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Proviso Council on Aging, former president of the Proviso Municipal League, and chairman of the West Suburban Preservation Agency; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico has been honored as the Illinois State Crime Commission's Municipal Leader of the Year and is a recipient of the JCCIA Peacemaker Award; and
