PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING PHIL WHITE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS A VILLAGE OF GLENVIEW TRUSTEE

 

WHEREAS, Philip White has been a dedicated, loyal public servant for the Village of Glenview for 14 years; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to his service as Trustee, he graduated Magna Cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip is an accomplished businessman, working for Continental Bondware, White Cap Company and finally as President and Principal Executive Officer of the Sweetheart Cup Company; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip transitioned the Sweetheart Cup Company to a new investor group in 1994 and took a much-deserved early retirement; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip has spent his retirement involved in philanthropic work, including serving on the board of the International Dyslexia Association; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip’s philanthropy also included doing pro bono work for the Catholic Theological Union, the largest Catholic graduate school in North America, where he played a lead role in the planning, design and construction of the Union’s new and renovated $21 million campus; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip and his wife Rosemary have been longtime Glenview residents; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip began his tenure as a Glenview Village Trustee in 2005; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip won his reelection in 2007, 2011, and 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, Philip advocated for access to affordable housing in new developments brought before the Board of Trustees; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby share its gratitude for Philip White’s decades of public and community service and wish him well in his retirement; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the text of this resolution be spread across the journal of proceedings of this honorable body and that a suitable copy be tendered to Philip as a means of communicating our congratulations.
