PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING THE OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND CAREER OF BETTY MC-SHANE BOLES OF SEIU LOCAL 73
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles is a product of the Chicago Public School System and graduated from Olive Harvey College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles started her journey with SEIU Local 73 in November 1981 working at the Chicago Housing Authority; and
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles was instrumental in paid maternity benefits being included in the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Housing Authority and SEIU Local 73. Due to her efforts, Betty became a Union Steward and was selected as a member of the bargaining committee in October 1989; and
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles hard work led her to be elevated to the position of Chief Union Steward in October 1993 by Thomas Balanoff, current President of SEIU Local 1; and
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles dedication to the rights of others to be heard and fairly treated stood out among her peers and awarded her an opportunity to become a Union Representative at SEIU Local 73 in September 1997; and
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles continued to climb the ladder of success at SEIU Local 73 while advocating for the rights of the members that she represented. Betty was promoted to Senior Union Representative in September 1999, Director of the Cook County Division in September 2001 and Vice President in October 2004 where she has been re-elected four times; and
WHEREAS, Betty Mc-Shane Boles is also known for her service to community. She has served as Local School Council President for W.E.B. DuBois Elementary School, mentor for Carver Elementary School students, and a member of the Board of Directors of Eden Green Co-Op. Betty is a faithful and proud 54 year member at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Revered Warren Woods Jr., who serves as Pastor; and
