PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE FEDERATION OF INDIAN ASSOCIATIONS - CHICAGO
WHEREAS, the month of May is recognized as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month; and
WHEREAS, Cook County celebrates the vast contributions made by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in our communities; and
WHEREAS, the Federation of Indian Associations - Chicago is a non-profit umbrella organization of other Indian Associations in the Chicago land and Mid-West representing in excess of 300,000 culturally diverse but united together Asian-Indians; and
WHEREAS, the FIA - Chicago represents and connects various issues of growing Asian-Indian community at the Local, State, and National platform within USA and overseas with Indian Government; and
WHEREAS, the FIA - Chicago was founded by Sunil Shah, Neil Khot, and Onkar Singh Sangha; and
WHEREAS, FIA - Chicago celebrates various events that bring together all Asian-Indian for Indian Republic Day, Indian Independence Day, and Diwali; and
WHEREAS, FIA has member organizations throughout Cook County that contribute to the betterment of our communities and provide opportunities for residents to learn more about and celebrate Indian culture; and
WHEREAS, FIA gives back to our communities by doing outreach events including a successful toy donation drive; and
WHEREAS, Cook County’s strength is in its diversity and FIA - Chicago is an example of that; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby honor the Federation of Indian Associations - Chicago, all of its member organizations, and contributing individuals for the outstanding work they do in Cook County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that suitable copies of this resolution are presented to the Federation of Indian Associations - Chicago.
