PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING FR. THOMAS E. GRIFFIN, O.S.A.
WHEREAS, on Sunday, June 30, 2019, a special Mass will be celebrated at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Chicago’s Canaryville community, and
WHEREAS, among the many blessings for which the parishioners of St. Gabriel will offer thanks on that day is that God has blessed them and sent to them His grace through the good works and benevolence of Father Thomas Griffin, Pastor of St. Gabriel Church, and
WHEREAS, Father Griffin was raised in Holy Rosary Parish in the Roseland area where he attended Grammar school, and
WHEREAS, Father Griffin graduated from Mendel High School in 1972, where he later graduated from DePaul with a BS in accounting, and
WHEREAS, Father Griffin entered the Augustinian Seminary in 1976 and was first ordained into the priesthood in April of 1983, and
WHEREAS, Father Griffin became a Navy Reserve Chaplain in 1986 thru 2000, and
WHEREAS, Father Griffin was appointed Pastor of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in 2012, and
WHEREAS, Father Griffin is known with great fondness and much affection by all the parishioners of St. Gabriel Parish who have sought his help and spiritual guidance over the years, and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding service to the parishioners of St. Gabriel Parish and the community of Canaryville, the parishioners of St. Gabriel Catholic Church will gather in a celebratory farewell Mass on June 30, 2019, now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board does hereby extend its congratulations to Father Thomas Griffin for this special recognition, and extends its gratitude on behalf of the community for his outstanding service over the years, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Father Thomas Griffin, to commemorate this joyous occasion.
