PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF ARTURO BALLESTEROS
WHEREAS, Arturo Ballesteros, son of Mexican immigrants, Juan and Rosa Ballesteros whom immigrated from San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco and Acambaro, Guanajuato respectively, was born in Chicago, IL in January 16, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Arturo Ballesteros grew up in the Pilsen neighborhood and currently resides in Brighton Park. He speaks Spanish at home with his parents, and his younger sister; and
WHEREAS, Arturo Ballesteros, a sophomore student at Back of the Yards College Prep received a perfect score on the College Board's Advanced Placement Spanish Language and Culture exam this year; and
WHEREAS, only 100 students out of 189,658 students that took the Advanced Placement Spanish Language and Culture exam this year across the entire globe were able to attain a perfect score on this year's exam and Arturo Ballesteros was one of them; and
WHEREAS, for the exam, Arturo Ballesteros correctly answered 65 multiple-choice questions, wrote a perfect persuasive essay, outlined the value of digital library resources over physical texts; responded to a sample business email; delivered an impromptu two-minute presentation; and discussed the merits of a career in law--all in college-level Spanish; and
WHEREAS, Arturo Ballesteros placed in the top 0.053 percent of exam takers, receiving the highest score possible; and
WHEREAS, Arturo Ballesteros is involved in many extracurricular activities at his school such as: math club, the volleyball team, the running club, the school newspaper, and ballet folklorico; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Brekke, the principal of Back of the Yards College Prep described Arturo Ballesteros as "incredibly smart", additionally she described him as a humble and great man.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate Arturo Ballesteros on receiving a perfect score on the College Board's Advanced Placement Spanish Langu...
