PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING SISTER ROSEMARY CONNELLY
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly, a native of Chicago, is a member of a Religious Sisters of Mercy, and
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly has been a member of the Sisters of Mercy for 70 years, and
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly has earned a B.S. in Social Science in 1959, a Master of Arts in Sociology from St. Louis University in 1966, a Master's in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in 1969, and
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly has received nine honorary doctorate degrees from the following prestigious educational institutions: University of Notre Dame, St. Mary's College of Notre Dame, Loyola University Chicago, DePaul University, Lewis University, Saint Xavier University, Dominican University, Marquette University and MacMurray University and
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly has received countless awards recognizing her work and accepts them on behalf of everyone involved in Misericordia, and
WHEREAS, in August of 1969, Sister Rosemary Connelly joined Misericordia, which means "heart of mercy" in Latin, as its Executive Director, and
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly, a visionary who has devoted 50 years to the Misericordia community, oversees 600 children and adult residents, an outreach program serving more than 140 families, 1,100 employees and volunteers both on and off campus, and
WHEREAS, with the help of many benefactors, Misericordia has become one of the nation's leading communities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and
WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary Connelly continues her leadership of Misericordia, she remains steadfast in her commitment to provide opportunities for all those with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live lives that are as fulfilled, meaningful and independent as possible, and
WHEREAS, we are grateful for Sister Rosemary Connelly's seventy years as a member of the Sisters of Mercy and 50 years as Misericordia'...
