PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING UNAM CHICAGO ON ITS 15TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, UNAM Chicago, a satellite campus of the Universidad Nacional Aut?noma de M?xico (National Autonomous University of Mexico) promotes a better understanding of the Mexican culture and people in the United States to institutions and individuals through academic programs and services surrounding education and culture; and
WHEREAS, UNAM Chicago has served the Mexican community since 2004, offering specialty learning, language classes, and recently, professional development in law, medicine, and architecture; and
WHEREAS, programs provided by UNAM Chicago are open to anyone interested, throughout the year in hopes of promoting an increased understanding of Mexican and Latin American history, art, language, and literature through seminars, panel discussions, workshops, traditional celebrations, and films; and
WHEREAS, UNAM Chicago hosts workshops for the Spanish-speaking community to help small business owners begin their journey to success, allow workers to gain their food certificate through a one-day course and exam, and prepare those seeking citizenship with a free class and preparation for the citizenship interview; and
WHEREAS, in addition, UNAM Chicago provides programs in Spanish in order to help people wanting to learn professionally in the medical and social work sectors, and those wanting to learn Spanish as a 2nd language, both programs have basic through advanced levels of speaking; and
WHEREAS, UNAM Chicago also provides programs for those seeking to improve their English and language skills in law, architecture, medical care, and nursing; and
WHEREAS, Year after year, UNAM Chicago has received funding from IME-Becas because of the work they do to help the Mexican community in education and work environment, these funds allow for UNAM Chicago to continue their programs that benefit the Mexican community in Chicago; and
