CONGRATULATING PILSEN NEIGHBORS COMMUNITY COUNCIL ON ITS 65TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council is a not-for-profit community organization based in the Pilsen neighborhood, within the 7th District of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council has been instrumental in bringing new institutions and capital improvements to the neighborhood from allocation and construction of Harrison Park Field House, West Side Technical Institute, and allocation of $26 million in city infrastructure funds between 1995-1999; and

WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council tirelessly serves as a voice in the Pilsen community, advocating for social justice, education reform, healthcare, housing justice, immigration reform and civic engagement.; and

WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council has worked with businesses, educators, the community, and government to improve the health and wellbeing of the community; and

WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council organized a fundraising event to celebrate the construction of Benito Juarez High School in 1995 and has been partially supported by Fiesta Del Sol summer event years after that; and

WHEREAS, Fiesta del Sol, organized by Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, has become the largest festival in the Midwest, bringing live entertainment, local art, a variety of food, carnival rides, a children's area, educational resources for parents and youth, soccer games and much more; and

WHEREAS, more recently, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, through the Guadalupe A. Reyes Fiesta del Sol Scholarship Program, has awarded scholarships to students from the Southwest side of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council provides a critical voice for the community and the issues of our day.
