Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION HONORING THE JUVENILE TEMPORARY DETENTION CENTER'S AMBASSADOR PROGRAM WHEREAS, The Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) provides temporary secure housing for youth from the ages of 12 through 17 years, who are awaiting adjudication of their cases by the Juvenile Division of the Cook County Courts; and, WHEREAS, The JTDC also provides care for youth who have been transferred from Juvenile Court jurisdiction to Criminal Court. These youth would otherwise be incarcerated in the county jail, but for their age; and, WHEREAS, The JTDC provides the children with a safe, secure and caring environment with programs and structure that enhance personal development and improve opportunities for success upon return to the community; and, WHEREAS, The JTDC has developed a behavior management system to encourage residents to achieve long and short term goals, and the Ambassador Program is the highest level of this system; and WHEREAS, The JTDC's Ambass...

A RESOLUTION HONORING THE JUVENILE TEMPORARY DETENTION CENTER'S AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

WHEREAS, The Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) provides temporary secure housing for youth from the ages of 12 through 17 years, who are awaiting adjudication of their cases by the Juvenile Division of the Cook County Courts; and,

WHEREAS, The JTDC also provides care for youth who have been transferred from Juvenile Court jurisdiction to Criminal Court. These youth would otherwise be incarcerated in the county jail, but for their age; and,

WHEREAS, The JTDC provides the children with a safe, secure and caring environment with programs and structure that enhance personal development and improve opportunities for success upon return to the community; and,

WHEREAS, The JTDC's Ambassador program seeks to enhance residents' confidence, self-worth and leadership potential; and,

WHEREAS, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, upon the recommendation of its Accreditation and Standards Committee, has selected the "Ambassador Program" at the Cook County JTDC to receive this year's NCCHC Program of the Year Award; and,

WHEREAS, This prestigious award is presented each year to only one facility's program, selected from among the 500 jails, prisons, and juvenile confinement facilities that participate in NCCHC's nationwide accreditation program; and,

WHEREAS, The award will be presented at a ceremony on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as part of the opening events of the National Conference on Correctional Health Care.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Cook County Board of Commissioners congratulates the leadership of the JTDC, its staff and residents who have worked so hard...
