PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING CHICAGO UNITED ON ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, the 1968 riots that followed the tragic death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. prompted top business leaders to discuss solutions to local economic instability and racial unrest; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1968, Chicago United is a non-profit with a mission to achieve parity in economic opportunity for people of color by advancing multiracial leadership in corporate governance, executive level management and business diversity; and
WHEREAS, Chicago United fosters dialogue amongst multiracial senior leadership driving corporate and minority-owned businesses, civic and non-profit leadership in the common goal of creating a stronger social and economic climate for all races; and
WHEREAS, Chicago United focuses on three key areas of multiracial leadership: to produce primary research and programs that model actionable strategies to advance inclusive diversity within the business community, to provide a platform that advances strategic relationships between corporations and local minority-owned business enterprises, and to introduce board-ready individuals of color to the business community as vetted candidates for corporate board positions; and
WHEREAS, on September 13, 2018, Chicago United released 2018 Inside Inclusion Featuring the Corporate Diversity Profile, a report reviewing the status of diversity and inclusion progress in Chicago’s top corporations; and
WHEREAS, Chicago United encourages all public and private institutions to identify steps forward and join the pursuit of diversity and inclusion efforts, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby congratulate Chicago United on its 50th anniversary and praise their work for the pursuit of diversity and equity in Cook County. end
