CONGRATULATING PROYECTO DE ACCI?N DE LOS SUBURBIOS DEL OESTE (PASO) ON ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, Proyecto De Acci?n De Los Suburbios Del Oeste (PASO) is a grassroots, community-based social justice organization in the West Cook Suburbs that builds strong communities through intersectional organizing, leadership development, education and civic engagement so people can live and thrive, regardless of race, immigration status, gender, sexual orientation or socioeconomic level; and

WHEREAS, PASO was founded in 2009 by local youth and community members who identified the lack of local entities in the West Cook suburbs that focused on leadership development and community empowerment for the growing, but underrepresented Latinx community; and

WHEREAS, PASO works with youth, families, and communities impacted by poverty and structural racism. With deep roots in the area, PASO plays a key role in prominent local, regional, and national issues due to its strong reputation and community presence; and

WHEREAS, PASO works to respond to community needs and ensure that community members are engaged and empowered to be their own advocates, and works towards systematic changes; and

WHEREAS, PASO engages in multi-faceted, multi-issue organizing and is solidly positioned to continue to carry out its mission for social justice through community-led change with a focus on racial and gender justice; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, PASO has been grounded in the leadership and voices of those directly impacted by the issues; and

WHEREAS, in 2012, PASO joined suburban youth leaders to advocate to pass the Illinois Dream Act, and in 2013, organized a children's march in Federal Plaza in support of immigrant justice; and

WHEREAS, this year, PASO worked with its partners to pass more than 14 pro-immigrant bills, and organized the largest "Abolish ICE" march and protest in the country; and
