Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MIRACULOUS WEEPING ICON OF THE VIRGIN MARY AT SAINT GEORGE ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF CICERO, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church located in Cicero, Illinois has been a pillar in the Cook County region for over 55 years; WHEREAS, in 1963 the parish of St. George was established on the West Side of Chicago as Orthodox Christians began to arrive in Illinois from the Middle East, and in 1979 a building was purchased in Oak Park, IL; WHEREAS, on May 01, 1984, to meet the growing needs of the community and after several months of fundraising, the members of St. George purchased a former Korean Presbyterian Church. This complex included Sunday school classrooms, a parish hall, a rectory, and a parking lot; WHEREAS, on April 22, 1994, the parishioners of St. George witnessed God's glory as the Icon of the Theotokos on the church's iconostasis began to shed tears. CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MIRACULOUS WEEPING ICON OF THE VIRGIN MARY AT SAINT GEORGE ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF CICERO, ILLINOIS

WHEREAS, Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church located in Cicero, Illinois has been a pillar in the Cook County region for over 55 years;

WHEREAS, in 1963 the parish of St. George was established on the West Side of Chicago as Orthodox Christians began to arrive in Illinois from the Middle East, and in 1979 a building was purchased in Oak Park, IL;

WHEREAS, on May 01, 1984, to meet the growing needs of the community and after several months of fundraising, the members of St. George purchased a former Korean Presbyterian Church. This complex included Sunday school classrooms, a parish hall, a rectory, and a parking lot;

WHEREAS, on April 22, 1994, the parishioners of St. George witnessed God's glory as the Icon of the Theotokos on the church's iconostasis began to shed tears. His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP formally declared the weeping icon a miracle and named it "The Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Cicero;

WHEREAS, visitors from all over the world travel to visit the Miraculous Weeping Icon in Cicero, bringing joy and hope for many Orthodox Christians throughout the world;

WHEREAS, the history of St. George has been full of miracles: From overcoming obstacles in its early days, to recovering from a tragic fire; the members of Saint George have overcome tragedy and adversity.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby express our congratulations to Saint George Antiochian Orthodoc Church in Celebration of its 25th Anniversary of the Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Cicero and extend our very best wishes for the future; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a ceremonial copy of same be presented to the Saint George Antiochian Orthodoc Church in honor of its impact to ...
