Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING DR. BETTY J. ALLEN-GREEN FOR HER LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION AS A COMMUNITY STRATEGIST, FACILITATOR AND EDUCATOR WHEREAS, Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green is a Grassroots Community Strategist, Facilitator, and a Chicago Public Schools Educator for over 35 year; and WHEREAS, she began her career as a teacher, worked as a counselor, assistant principal and eighteen years as Principal of Theodore Herzl Elementary School. As principal, Dr. Green and her staff built a cohesive unit of academic pride in the students and cultivated constructive parental involvement; and WHEREAS, Dr. Green achieved many successes while facing Herculean demands of a community she loves. Under her leadership, Dr. Allen-Green developed and nurtured a program of academic excellence at Herzl Elementary School. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING DR. BETTY J. ALLEN-GREEN FOR HER LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION AS A COMMUNITY STRATEGIST, FACILITATOR AND EDUCATOR

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green is a Grassroots Community Strategist, Facilitator, and a Chicago Public Schools Educator for over 35 year; and

 

WHEREAS, she began her career as a teacher, worked as a counselor, assistant principal and eighteen years as Principal of Theodore Herzl Elementary School. As principal, Dr. Green and her staff built a cohesive unit of academic pride in the students and cultivated constructive parental involvement; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Green achieved many successes while facing Herculean demands of a community she loves. Under her leadership, Dr. Allen-Green developed and nurtured a program of academic excellence at Herzl Elementary School. Additionally, Herzl was notably recognized for achieving over a 96% student and teachers’ attendance rate which contributed to continuous academic excellence and improvements; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Green’s dedication and innovation encouraged partnerships with Columbia College and DePaul University’s Center for Urban Education. These partnerships resulted in opportunities for students to immerse themselves in fine arts like never. The relationships with Columbia College and DePaul University’s Center for Urban Education also provided excellent professional development and in-class coaching for teachers.  This ingenious collaboration was underwritten by J.P. Morgan Chase Foundation, Steans Family foundation, Lawndale Christian Health Center and the Carol Kaplan Foundation.; and

 

WHEREAS, after retiring from Herzl Elementary School, Dr. Green worked for CPS Office of Principal Preparation and Development where she mentored new principals.  She simultaneously founded the Lawndale AMACHI Mentoring Program (LAMP).  LAMP is a program providing mentors to children and youth between the ages of four-eighteen in the North Lawndale Community. It also provides tutoring in the areas of reading and mathematics and Restorative Justice Peacemaking Circles.  LAMP has served over 2,000 children since its beginning in 2007 and achieved many successes; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to serving the children, LAMP provides workshops and support groups for the parents and caregivers. These groups are designed to empower parents to enhance their ability to ensure their children are successful in school and grow up to live successful lives.; and

 

WHEREAS, Cook County Government acknowledges Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green for transforming lives through community engagement; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Green devotes her life to helping children and Glorifying God.  She started a Scholarship Ministry at New Community Church, which gives her continued satisfaction. Spending quality time with family and friends is always an energizing joy for Dr. Allen Green in addition to helping to plant a firm foundation in her two grandchildren is a cherished blessing for Dr.Allen Green; and

 

WHEREAS, Cook County Government acknowledges Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green for transforming lives through community engagement.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Toni Preckwinkle President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners as well as the Board of Commissioners along with the 5.3 million residents of Cook County do hereby recognized Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green for her invaluable, leadership, dedication and commitment to the residents of North Lawndale and herewith express our sincere gratitude for your service to the community.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution is forwarded to Dr. Betty J. Allen-Green and a copy be placed upon the official record of the honorable body recognizing this auspicious occasion
