HONORING ASPIRA OF ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois was established in 1968 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in response to the growing social and educational needs of the Puerto Rican and Latino community in Chicago,
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois' mission is to empower the Puerto Rican and Latino community through advocacy and the education and leadership development of its youth,
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois' approach is multi-systemic and addresses all family members' needs in collaboration with other social service agencies, health care providers, public schools, higher education institutions and government agencies,
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois is committed to elevating the self-esteem of all students through leadership development and fostering their personal growth by encouraging lifelong learning.
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois understands the value of all students appreciating and understanding their cultural heritage to build self-esteem and pave the way to academic excellence.
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois is committed to teaching students the value of improving the quality of life of others and learning to be compassionate and understanding.
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois embraces all aspects of human diversity and value its necessity
to ensure a vibrant learning environment.
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois is committed to establishing partnerships with universities, the private sector, nonprofit, and community organizations that will enhance the student's school experience and their leadership development.
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois serves over 3,000 students and their families every year through its schools and youth development programs,
WHEREAS, ASPIRA of Illinois has helped thousands of low-income students attend college and helped numerous families access support services
