Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING FEATHER FIST WHEREAS, Feather Fist was founded in 1984 by Executive Director Melanie G. Anewishki and was formally incorporated in 1990 as a 501c3 and receive it first public funding in 1994. WHEREAS, Melanie's passion and focus has been to utilize her experience and education in developing The Feather Fist Model of Social Services that successfully addresses the underlying cause of homelessness for individual clients and the homeless population; and WHEREAS, Melanie is a retired College Professor, specializing in Early Childhood Education and Special Education, Residential Childcare, Human Services and Curriculum and Instruction. She is also a trainer of Lay Ministers of Care and educates them on Suffering, Death & Dying.; and WHEREAS, Feather Fist's qualified case managers conduct extensive outreach citywide, crisis intervention for homeless men, women, children and those at risk of becoming homeless. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING FEATHER FIST

 

WHEREAS, Feather Fist was founded in 1984 by Executive Director Melanie G. Anewishki and was formally incorporated in 1990 as a 501c3 and receive it first public funding in 1994. 

 

WHEREAS, Melanie’s passion and focus has been to utilize her experience and education in developing The Feather Fist Model of Social Services that successfully addresses the underlying cause of homelessness for individual clients and the homeless population; and

 

WHEREAS, Melanie is a retired College Professor, specializing in Early Childhood Education and Special Education, Residential Childcare, Human Services and Curriculum and Instruction.  She is also a trainer of Lay Ministers of Care and educates them on Suffering, Death & Dying.; and

 

WHEREAS, Feather Fist’s qualified case managers conduct extensive outreach citywide, crisis intervention for homeless men, women, children and those at risk of becoming homeless. Feather Fist maintains direct access to transitional housing units where clients are assisted in developing a supportive service plan to prepare for and provide access to permanent housing; and

 

WHEREAS, Feather Fist will become a national model for providing a holistic approach to servicing homeless men, women, and children and empowering them to a pathway to independence; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby honor and recognize Melanie G. Anewishki and Feather Fist for their contribution to the viability of Cook County; and 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, this is where you ask for further action or where you ask for ceremonial copies of your resolution to be sent to the person or organizations being memorialized.
