Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING DONEGAL IMPORTS FOR THEIR 40 YEAR BUSINESS ANNIVERSARY AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO COOK COUNTY'S DIVERSITY WHEREAS, Alex McGrath and Sheila McGrath opened Donegal Imports on November 9, 1979; and WHEREAS,?Donegal Imports is an Irish import store located at 5358 West Devon Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60646; and, WHEREAS, Donegal Imports contributes to the diverse make up of Cook County; and, WHEREAS, as of the last U.S Census, the Irish population embodies nearly 7.9% of Cook County; and, WHEREAS, Donegal Imports connects Cook County to Ireland's rich culture by featuring key cultural mementos and foods such as Waterford crystal, Aran knit sweaters, hats and caps, Irish sausages and rashers;?and, WHEREAS, Donegal Imports is also one of the only places where Cook County residents can get access to newspapers directly printed in Ireland in their printed form; and, WHEREAS, every year Donegal Imports supports WGN's Wally Philips and the Neediest Kids Fund...

HONORING DONEGAL IMPORTS FOR THEIR 40 YEAR BUSINESS ANNIVERSARY AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO COOK COUNTY’S DIVERSITY

 

WHEREAS, Alex McGrath and Sheila McGrath opened Donegal Imports on November 9, 1979; and

 

WHEREAS, Donegal Imports is an Irish import store located at 5358 West Devon Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60646; and,

 

WHEREAS, Donegal Imports contributes to the diverse make up of Cook County; and,

 

WHEREAS, as of the last U.S Census, the Irish population embodies nearly 7.9% of Cook County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Donegal Imports connects Cook County to Ireland’s rich culture by featuring key cultural mementos and foods such as Waterford crystal, Aran knit sweaters, hats and caps, Irish sausages and rashers; and,

 

WHEREAS, Donegal Imports is also one of the only places where Cook County residents can get access to newspapers directly printed in Ireland in their printed form; and,

 

WHEREAS, every year Donegal Imports supports WGN’s Wally Philips and the Neediest Kids Fund by donating a crystal Waterford Chandelier; and,

 

WHEREAS, in the 1980s, the McGrath Family, owners of Donegal Imports, were voted “Irish Family of the Year,” at the Roche Irish Feis; and,

 

WHEREAS, on November 9, 2019, Donegal Imports celebrated their 40th year in business and more importantly, enriching the diverse landscape of Cook County.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners and residents of Cook County honors Donegal Imports for their 40 Year Business Anniversary and their contribution to Cook County’s diversity.
