Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF REVEREND MACEO WOODS WHEREAS, Pastor Maceo Woods, was born on April 23, 1930 on the South side of Chicago, Illinois; and WHEREAS, Pastor Maceo Woods lived in Chicago and was a Cook County resident who selflessly made extraordinary contributions to gospel music and help organize Chicago's Gospel Music Festival; and WHEREAS, Pastor Woods, started his gospel music career, it was in 1954 with the release of Amazing Grace that started him on a musical journey that spanned over the course of 50 plus years; and WHEREAS, Pastor Woods founded Christian Tabernacle Church at 47th and Prairie Street the birthplace of the dynamic Christian Tabernacle choir; and WHEREAS, in the early 1960's Pastor Woods invited Rev. C.L. Franklin to Chicago for a gospel program and the Detroit minister brought his daughter-Aretha Franklin; and WHEREAS, Pastor Woods who established a radio show that was an inspirational beacon for night shift works, cabbies, and stud...

HONORING THE LIFE OF REVEREND MACEO WOODS 

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Maceo Woods, was born on April 23, 1930 on the South side of Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Maceo Woods lived in Chicago and was a Cook County resident who selflessly made extraordinary contributions to gospel music and help organize Chicago’s Gospel Music Festival; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Woods, started his gospel music career, it was in 1954 with the release of Amazing Grace that started him on a musical journey that spanned over the course of 50 plus years; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Woods founded Christian Tabernacle Church at 47th and Prairie Street the birthplace of the dynamic Christian Tabernacle choir; and

 

WHEREAS, in the early 1960’s Pastor Woods invited Rev. C.L. Franklin to Chicago for a gospel program and the Detroit minister brought his daughter-Aretha Franklin; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Woods who established a radio show that was an inspirational beacon for night shift works, cabbies, and students. Midnight Gospel which started on WNIB, then moved to WCFL and later WLS Sunday Jubilee Showcase; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Woods, in 2014 was honored with a Legends Award from gospels music’s Stellar Awards and was also recognized with a lifetime achievement award from Chicago Gospel Music Awards; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Maceo Woods passed away on January 11, 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, is survived by his son Len Eric Woods; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of Pastor Maceo Woods and honor the life and memory of this outstand Cook County resident. end
