Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MICHAEL MANNO WHEREAS, Michael Manno was called home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2020; and WHEREAS, Michael Manno was born on April 21, 1952; and WHEREAS, Michael Manno was a lifelong resident of Lansing, Illinois where he graduated from T.F. South, and attended the University of Illinois where he earned his B.A. Degree in Law Enforcement; and WHEREAS, Michael Manno started his career in public service with the Lansing Public Works Department. In 1978, he joined the Lansing Police Department where he faithfully served for 35 years. He was involved with the police department's Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) programs. HONORING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MICHAEL MANNO

 

WHEREAS, Michael Manno was called home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Manno was born on April 21, 1952; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Manno was a lifelong resident of Lansing, Illinois where he graduated from T.F. South, and attended the University of Illinois where he earned his B.A. Degree in Law Enforcement; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Manno started his career in public service with the Lansing Public Works Department. In 1978, he joined the Lansing Police Department where he faithfully served for 35 years. He was involved with the police department’s Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) programs. It was also during this period that he became most known for his positive and uplifting interactions with numerous youths in Lansing schools; and

 

WHEREAS, in April of 2013, Mayor Patty Eidam, Village of Lansing, appointed Michael Manno as a Village Trustee. He served as chair of the LNN, Information Technology, ADA Committee, and as co-chair of the Youth Center and Insurance Committee. Mayor Eidam described Michael Manno as mentor when she first joined as a police officer with the Lansing Police Department who became a friend and supporter to her and so many others in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Manno was active in the Lansing community where he served as a member of the District 171 School Board, president of the TF South Booster Club, the Lansing Lions Football Organization, coach in the Lansing Girls’ Softball Program, and as the chairman of the Marion Catholic High School fundraising committee. He also served as a member on the Board of Directors of the Lansing Association for Community Events and a member of the Lansing Volunteer Recognition Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2018, Michael Manno became the first male to win the Lansing Athena Award for his dedication to the community and supporting women in their professional and leadership development; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Manno’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Manno, his three daughters, Dana (Craig) Parkhill, Renee Manno, and Nikki Manno, and one granddaughter, Harper Parkhill; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County does hereby honor and celebrate the life of Michael Manno and his many contributions bettering the lives of all residents in Lansing, Illinois; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to the family of Michael Manno and the Village of Lansing.
