PROPOSED RESOLUTION
FRED RANDOZZO, IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, on December 6, 2020, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom called Fred Randozzo from our midst; and
WHEREAS, Ferdinando "Fred" Randozzo was born in 1922 and was the eldest of four sons of Giuseppe and Rose (DiPrima) Randazzo, both of whom emigrated to Chicago from Sicily; and
WHEREAS, Fred Randozzo grew up on Cambridge Avenue in the Little Sicily enclave on Chicago's Near North Side; and
WHEREAS, Fred Randozzo attended Nettlehorst Grade School and Lane Tech High School on Chicago's North Side; and
WHEREAS, Fred Randozzo was employed by Wilson's Sporting Goods when World War II broke out. Enlisting in the navy, he was assigned to the U.S. Navy Disciplinary Barracks in San Pedro, California, where he oversaw the daily work detail of more than 1,000 court-martialed sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen; and
WHEREAS, after serving in the navy, Fred Randozzo returned to Chicago, where he attended radio and TV school and began a lifelong career selling radio time; and
WHEREAS, Fred Randozzo was involved in the early years of Festa Italiana on Chicago's lakefront, served as the executive director of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans, and more recently served on the Human Relations Committee; and
WHEREAS, a longtime member of Filippo Mazzei Post #1 of the Italian American War Veterans, Fred Randozzo was the driving force behind the Veterans Day Mass at the Shrine Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, which recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Fred Randozzo will be missed by all who knew him for his tireless spirit and passionate advocacy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of Fred Randozzo; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the fam...
