PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING KATHLEEN BURGESS UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT

 

WHEREAS, Kathleen Burgess will be retiring from Cook County Government on September 30, 2020 after nearly 23-years of serving the residents of Cook County, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout her tenure with Cook County, Kathy has diligently worked as a team player to serve the residents of Cook County and did so with a cheery disposition; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathleen Burgess began serving early in life as a flight attendant, with her airline often flying soldiers serving in the Vietnam War; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1998, Kathy began her career with Cook County in the Department of Supportive Services as an Administrative Assistant IV; and

 

WHEREAS, by the end of that year, she began working for what then was the Office of the Chief Coordinator in the Bureau of Public Safety & Judicial Coordination; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1999, Kathy was promoted to Administrative Assistant V where she was responsible for single handedly managing the County’s Child Support Compliance Enforcement activities ensuring that anyone seeking a County Privilege is in full compliance with any Child Support Order; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2006, Kathy continued her employment under the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy’s pleasant personality and desire to help attitude led her to become the voice of Cook County when the County shifted to automated phone services in lieu of live operators, she was the callers’ support when automated options were insufficient; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy continued to hold these responsibilities until her retirement; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathleen Burgess has often gone above and beyond to assist County residents and reflect what it means to be a County employee, a true public servant - someone with care and concern for the people who need our services; and

 

WHEREAS, Kathy continues serving outside of her work hours to support deserving candidates in their quest for public office, including her friend of 60 years, Hillary Rodham Clinton; and

 

WHEREAS, the President, Cook County Board of Commissioners, Cook County staff and all who know Kathy wish her well as she now has more time to spend making Cook County, the State of Illinois and the nation a better place for all people.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Members of the Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the 5.2 million Cook County residents and more than 22,000 employees of Cook County, congratulate Kathleen Burgess upon the occasion of her retirement.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to Kathleen Burgess.
