PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING MRS. LOUIS (MOMMA LUE) HARPER FOR HER DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO THE NORTH LAWNDALE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, Mrs. Louis (Momma Lue) Harper as she is fondly called by almost everyone who steps into her diner, has been serving the North Lawndale community on the West side of Chicago for more than 60 years :and
WHEREAS, Momma Lue was born in Mississippi in 1943, to the parents of Lena Dixon and Kenny Dixon. She later moved to Chicago and married Perry Westbrook and to this union they have one beautiful daughter, Leola Westbrook; and
WHEREAS; Momma Lue is somewhat of a mother figure to residents; she feeds people like they are her own family. She remembers when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived in the area, and he had walked into her restaurant, New Pine Valley, with his friends. "I loved it" I loved it; she said and;
WHEREAS, Momma Lue's mission is to provide the community with a cornerstone restaurant. The space has remained more or less the same through the decades. Over the years, its clientele has included President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,. just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Momma Lue retired in 2020 from a job she's held since 1962, when the restaurant first opened. The tiny diner has unassuming exterior and holds importance for locals with a sign that reads "home of the $1.35 hamburger; and
WHEREAS, Cook County hereby congratulates Mrs. Louis (Momma Lue) Harper of being a beacon of light that transformed the North Lawndale community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on behalf of President Toni Preckwinkle, the Cook County Board of Commissioners and on behalf of the over five million residents of Cook County do hereby recognize Mrs. Louis (Momma Lue) Harper for her Outstanding Service, Leadership ,Dedication and Commitment to the North Lawndale Community, and so wish Mrs. Louis (Momma Lue) Harper every continued success in her retirement and future endeavors, and ...
