PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF RICHARD H. DRIEHAUS
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Richard H. Driehaus made his transition to eternal life on March 9, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Richard H. Driehaus was the devoted father of Tereza, Caroline, and Katherine Driehaus; and
WHEREAS, Richard H. Driehaus was the loving brother of Dorothy nee Driehaus (Art) Mellin and Elizabeth Driehaus (Demitrios Athens); and
WHERAS, Richard H. Driehaus was a graduate of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Grammar School, St. Ignatius College Prep, Southeast Junior College, and DePaul University (bachelor's degree, 1965; M.B.A., 1970; and
WHEREAS, in 1979, Richard H. Driehaus formed the stock brokerage firm Driehaus Securities Corporation LLC and in 1982 he formed Driehaus Capital Management LLC.; and
WHERAS, after much success in his business endeavors, Richard H. Driehaus, focused his attention and energy on a wide variety of philanthropy and community service projects; and
WHERAS, The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation and the Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trusts donated over $5 million per year in support of programs that help working people avoid poverty, educational programs and institutions, programs focusing on the cultivation of the arts including design and architecture, fashion, theatre, music and dance, programs dedicated to the historic preservation of architectural landmarks and assistance for museums and cultural centers.
WHERAS, since 2001, the annual Richard H. Driehaus prize for classical architecture, through the University of Notre Dame, has honored architects from around the world and encourages and promotes the principles of traditional, classical, and sustainable architecture and urbanism; and
WHEREAS, all who knew him will attest that Richard H. Driehaus was a kind and compassionate man, virtuous of character and gentle in spirit, admired and respected by his many friend...
