PROPOSED RESOLUTION
DR. SAM VACCARO, IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, called Sam Vaccaro from our midst on March 18, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vaccaro was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vaccaro was a highly respected and admired teacher and administrator for Elmwood Park Unit School District 401 for over three decades; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vaccaro began his teaching career at District 401 in 1968 as a science teacher at Elmwood Elementary School and then went on to teach science and become the assistant principal at Elmwood Park High School; and
WHEREAS, realizing the importance of offering Elmwood Park's students the best and most up-to-date education, Dr. Vaccaro was extremely instrumental in the planning, building and opening of Elmwood Park's first middle school and, in 1989, became its first principal; and
WHEREAS, in 1998, Dr. Vaccaro became principal at Elmwood Park High School, where he presided until his retirement in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vaccaro treated all staff and faculty with respect and kindness throughout his tenure with District 401, and as a result received the same in return. His dedication to students was always his top priority and his positive impact is still fondly remembered by countless former students, parents, staff, faculty and administration of District 401; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vaccaro was a friend, role model, and mentor to all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, in his retirement, Dr. Vaccaro enjoyed fishing, golf, travel and spending time with his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Vaccaro leaves behind Barbara, his loving wife of 51 years; his cherished daughters, Jennifer Cross and Mary Vaccaro; and his beloved granddaughters, Morgan Cross and Emma Vaccaro.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby offer their deepest condolences to the family Sam Vaccaro and their sincere gratitude for the positive mark h...
