PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING GIANCARLO IANNOTTA FOR HIS FILM, MY COUNTRY
WHEREAS, local filmmaker, Giancarlo Iannotta, wrote, acted in, directed, and produced the film, My Country; and
WHEREAS, the first fifteen minutes of the film take place near Lawrence and Cumberland on Chicago’s Northwest Side; and
WHEREAS, Giancarlo Iannotta’s father and uncle emigrated from Molise, Italy, in the late 1950’s and moved to that neighborhood on Potawatomie Street in the late 1970’s; and
WHEREAS, in the film, Giancarlo Iannotta’s character, Lucky, goes on a journey from Chicago to Molise to fulfill a request made by his father on his deathbed; and
WHEREAS, as the film travels from Rome to Molise, it traverses the Village of Elmwood Park’s Sister City, Frosinone, in which there is a Piazza Elmwood Park; and
WHEREAS, throughout the film, Lucky celebrates and praises Chicago’s neighborhoods and tries to convey to his extended Italian family the similarities between Chicago and Molise, as both are “full of love”; and
WHEREAS, Giancarlo Iannotta grew up in Elmhurst and attended Montini Catholic High School and then studied Film and Video at Columbia College Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Giancarlo has been writing and directing short films ever since-many similarly shot in and around his uncle’s home on the Northwest Side. My Country is his first feature and first starring role; and
WHEREAS, Giancarlo has more than one hundred films and commercials on his résumé. Some have screened at such respected film festivals as SXSW, Chicago Critics, and Mill Valley; and
WHEREAS, My Country was nominated for several awards at festivals across the U.S. and in Italy, including the Brooklyn Film Festival and the Italian Contemporary Film Festival; and
WHEREAS, My Country won several awards, including Best Illinois Film at the Beloit International Film Festival, Audience Favorite at the Route 66 Film Festival, Best Feature Film at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival, and Best First Feature Film at WorldFest Houston.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby honor Giancarlo Iannotta for the success of his film, My Country; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be tendered to Giancarlo Iannotta as a token of our appreciation for his work and as inspiration for his continued success.
