Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF STAFF SERGEANT JOSEPH EDWARD HOWARD WHEREAS, Joseph Edward Howard was born on August 22, 1991 in St. Francis Hospital. He was raised in Evanston, Illinois. He attended Washington and Nichols Schools for grammar school education. For high school, he attended Evanston Township where he excelled in his studies. He developed a contagious and outgoing personality that destined him for leadership. It was here, where he also got the spark to join the armed services. He graduated from Evanston Township in May of 2009; and WHEREAS, Joseph gravitated to the military and enlisted in December 2009. Here is where he dedicated his life to his country, starting in the Army Reserves. He joined the Active Reserves two years later and was stationed in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2012-2017. HONORING THE LIFE OF STAFF SERGEANT JOSEPH EDWARD HOWARD

 

WHEREAS, Joseph Edward Howard was born on August 22, 1991 in St. Francis Hospital. He was raised in Evanston, Illinois. He attended Washington and Nichols Schools for grammar school education. For high school, he attended Evanston Township where he excelled in his studies. He developed a contagious and outgoing personality that destined him for leadership. It was here, where he also got the spark to join the armed services. He graduated from Evanston Township in May of 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, Joseph gravitated to the military and enlisted in December 2009. Here is where he dedicated his life to his country, starting in the Army Reserves. He joined the Active Reserves two years later and was stationed in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2012-2017. While in Minnesota, he developed many strong relationships and was encouraged to excel and advance his military service, attaining the rank of Sergeant 3rd Class in 2013; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2017, Joseph was reassigned to Long Island, New York where he joined the 7202 Medical Unit. There, he got his wings and became a Paratrooper in February 2018. Joseph completed an Advanced Leadership Course in 2019 and Air Assault Training in March of 2020. After completing this training, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Summer of 2020. This was an accomplishment that he worked hard to achieve at such a young age. December 2020 marked his 10th anniversary in the Army; and

 

WHEREAS, Joseph died in the line of duty while serving his country on March 26, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving Mother and Father, Yvonne and Kevin; his doting Grandparents, Jameil and Louis; Sister, Kaitlyn; Aunts Terri, Cecelia, and Shannon; Uncles Charles, Isaac, and François; life-long friends; military family; and his beloved Leo and Queen.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County, honors the life and contributions of Joseph Edward Howard, and herewith expresses its sincere gratitude for the invaluable contributions he made in service to our country and to the Citizens of Cook County, Illinois; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of same be tendered to the family of Staff Sgt. Joseph Edward Howard.
