Leon Miller was born in Tutwiler Mississippi where he and his three brothers, Dr. James Miller M.D., Dr. JL. Miller and Dr. Matthew Miller were raised under the loving care of their grandparents; and WHEREAS, Reverend Leon Miller is married to First Lady Patricia Miller. They have four children: Talitha Miller, Rev. Archie J. Matlock III, Tiffany Miller, and Rev. Leon N. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING REVEREND LEON MILLER UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM MOUNT EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH

 

WHEREAS, on Friday, June 18, 2021 the Mount Ebenezer Baptist Church faith community celebrated Pastor Leon Miller’s upcoming retirement; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Leon Miller’s ministries have helped countless many in their individual faith journeys; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Leon Miller was born in Tutwiler Mississippi where he and his three brothers, Dr. James Miller M.D., Dr. JL. Miller and Dr. Matthew Miller were raised under the loving care of their grandparents; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Leon Miller is married to First Lady Patricia Miller. They have four children: Talitha Miller, Rev. Archie J. Matlock III, Tiffany Miller, and Rev. Leon N. Miller and five grandchildren all residing in Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Leon Miller accepted the call to ministry for his life, 46 years ago, in 1975 at Rising Sun Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W.A Kelly and was ordained in 1979. Rev. Leon Miller served as an associate minister at Rising Sun Baptist until 1991 but remains a member of Rising Sun under the capable leadership of his brother, Pastor Dr. Matthew L. Miller; and

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Leon is to be applauded for his steadfast commitment to uplifting lives and serving the needs of families and individuals throughout the Mount Ebenezer Baptist Church faith community for the past 30 years; and

 

WHEREAS, On January 5, 1992, Rev. Leon Miller was called to shepherd Mount Ebenezer Baptist Church, then located at 1533 So. Drake Ave. Chicago Illinois.  Under his leadership, his flock quickly grew so in order to fulfill his vision, Pastor Miller made a bold move in 2008 to 3555 West Huron, Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1999, Pastor Miller founded Ebenezer Community Outreach (ECO), a non-profit community organization which works side by side with Mount Ebenezer Church to provide community activities and services.                      ECO has employed more than 500 community residents over the past five years and presently employ 50 individuals. ECO has been a Safe Haven for more than 500 youth, keeping them off the street with mentoring and shaping lives to become more productive and empowered; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Leon Miller has a rich history of service and affiliations including serving as Finance Chairman of the United Baptist State Convention of Illinois Inc., President of the Moderator Department of the United Baptist State Convention Illinois Inc., past President of the New Baptist Ministers Fellowship of Chicago and Vicinity, past First Vice Moderator of the Sunlight Baptist District Association, and current Moderator of the Sunlight Baptist District Association; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, does hereby thank Reverend Leon Miller for his important and commendable work on behalf of our County and wishes him a fulfilling retirement and every continued success.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be tendered to Reverend Leon Miller, as a token of the esteem in which he is held by the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the Cook County Board of Commissioners.
