Maloof, Public Information Officer for the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, will end her service to the residents of Cook County effective June 30, 2021; and WHEREAS, Barb graduated with a Master of Arts from DePaul University School of Public Administration in June 1989; and WHEREAS, in June 1989, Barb began her public service career with the Chicago Department of Transportation as City Planner I, was promoted to City Planner V, and then Associate Director of Public Information where she worked on community outreach regarding various road projects throughout Chicago; and WHEREAS, in March 2001, Barb joined the Chicago Department of Aviation as the website analyst for flychicago.com, the premiere website for O'Hare International Airport; and WHEREAS, when tragedy struck the nation with the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Barb was one of the many communications...

CELEBRATING THE CAREER OF BARBARA "BARB" M. MALOOF

WHEREAS, Barbara "Barb" M. Maloof, Public Information Officer for the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, will end her service to the residents of Cook County effective June 30, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Barb graduated with a Master of Arts from DePaul University School of Public Administration in June 1989; and

WHEREAS, in June 1989, Barb began her public service career with the Chicago Department of Transportation as City Planner I, was promoted to City Planner V, and then Associate Director of Public Information where she worked on community outreach regarding various road projects throughout Chicago; and

WHEREAS, in March 2001, Barb joined the Chicago Department of Aviation as the website analyst for flychicago.com, the premiere website for O'Hare International Airport; and

WHEREAS, when tragedy struck the nation with the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Barb was one of the many communications professionals who helped navigate the crisis and afterwards keep the public calm, informed and safe; and

WHEREAS, Barb began her service to the residents of Cook County in March 2011 as the first Public Information Officer for the newly created Bureau of Economic Development; and

WHEREAS, she generated the Bureau's first newsletter, created the first webpage, and helped promote the Bureau's good work and programs for Cook County residents; and

WHEREAS, Barb's previous experience with the national tragedy and crisis communications has been instrumental in the Bureau of Economic Development's COVID-19 Community Recovery Initiative that has helped residents and small businesses in suburban Cook County connect with vital resources; and

WHEREAS, beyond her service at Cook County, Barb serves on the Executive Committee of the Hyde Park Kenwood Interfaith Board where she will be spearheading the project to help the resettlement of refugees in the Hyde Park community; and
