Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE JUSTINIAN SOCIETY OF LAWYERS ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, the Justinian Society of Lawyers will hold its Centennial Celebration on October 21, 2021, at Galleria Marchetti; and WHEREAS, on October 17, 1921, thirty of the approximately forty Chicago lawyers of Italian descent met and formed the Justinian Society of Advocates (later named the Justinian Society of Lawyers), chartered on October 21, 1921; and WHEREAS, the early Justinians were both leading members of the bar and civic leaders. Some were World War I veterans; many others were also prominent in business. HONORING THE JUSTINIAN SOCIETY OF LAWYERS ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY

WHEREAS, the Justinian Society of Lawyers will hold its Centennial Celebration on October 21, 2021, at Galleria Marchetti; and

WHEREAS, on October 17, 1921, thirty of the approximately forty Chicago lawyers of Italian descent met and formed the Justinian Society of Advocates (later named the Justinian Society of Lawyers), chartered on October 21, 1921; and

WHEREAS, the early Justinians were both leading members of the bar and civic leaders. Some were World War I veterans; many others were also prominent in business.

WHEREAS, many of the early Justinians were born in Italy and were brought as children to the United States by their parents; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Justinian Society of Lawyers is to foster a spirit of collegiality through social and professional events and to promote the profession of its members; and

WHEREAS, the Justinian Society's mission, in addition, is participating in civic and community affairs to ensure the enduring respect of the legal system; and

WHEREAS, members of the Justinian Society of Lawyers have held significant and prominent positions, such as president of the Chicago Bar Association and president of the Illinois State Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, The Children's Endowment Fund (CEF) was originally founded in 2002 by the Justinian Society of Lawyers as a charitable and benevolent arm of the Justinian Society of Lawyers and in 2012 became a subdivision of the Justinian Society of Lawyers' Endowment Fund. The mission of the CEF is to assist and aid disadvantaged or disabled children without regard to ethnicity, race, or religion; and

WHEREAS, the Children's Endowment Fund has granted more than $100,000 to organizations affiliated with bettering the lives of children, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Shriners Hospital for Children, and Chicago Public Schools, to name a few.
