Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S FENCING TEAM TOP-TEN TEAM FINISH AT THE 2022 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS WHEREAS, Northwestern Fencing concluded the 2022 season in March with a top-ten team finish at the NCAA Championships in South Bend, Indiana. The Wildcats were led by Honorable Mention All-American Sky Miller, Commissioner Donna Miller's niece, who wrapped up her sophomore season with a ninth-place individual finish at the NCAA Championships. Joining Miller on the national stage were graduate student Sarah Filby and first-year Hanna Lipthay. Northwestern's 2022 season included a runner-up finish in the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference and a victory over the number one team in the country, Notre Dame, at the DeCicco Duals in South Bend; and WHEREAS, earlier in the season, Northwestern University hosted the NCAA Fencing Conference Championships for the first time in more than thirty years. CELEBRATING THE NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S FENCING TEAM

TOP-TEN TEAM FINISH AT THE 2022 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

WHEREAS, Northwestern Fencing concluded the 2022 season in March with a top-ten team finish at the NCAA Championships in South Bend, Indiana. The Wildcats were led by Honorable Mention All-American Sky Miller, Commissioner Donna Miller's niece, who wrapped up her sophomore season with a ninth-place individual finish at the NCAA Championships. Joining Miller on the national stage were graduate student Sarah Filby and first-year Hanna Lipthay. Northwestern's 2022 season included a runner-up finish in the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference and a victory over the number one team in the country, Notre Dame, at the DeCicco Duals in South Bend; and

WHEREAS, earlier in the season, Northwestern University hosted the NCAA Fencing Conference Championships for the first time in more than thirty years. The Wildcats welcomed teams from across the Midwest - Lawrence, Wayne State, Ohio State, Denison and Cleveland State: and

WHEREAS, Miller entered the NCAA Championships as the 20-seed in the 24-fencer sabre competition. Twelve victories in pool bouts helped the sophomore secure a top-ten individual finish on the biggest stage in college fencing. Along the way, Miller defeated six Ivy League fencers and continued to prove herself one of the top sabrists in the country. Sarah Filby and Hanna Lipthay, representing Northwestern in the foil and epee, finished 13th and 18th respectively; and

WHEREAS, Miller now has a pair of top-ten NCAA individual finishes to her name, including as the national runner-up at the NCAA Championships in 2021. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Miller is a two-time All-American who also helped lead Northwestern to their best team result in school history, a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships a season ago.
