PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING THE DEDICATION AND SERVICE OF ESTHER JOO AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CORE FOUNDATION
WHEREAS, Esther Joo began her career in 1985 as a research associate for the Illinois Cancer Council, and
WHEREAS, in 1987 through 1992, Esther Joo held several positions at the Illinois Department of Public Health, including Coordinator for both Illinois AIDS Interdisciplinary Advisory Council and HIV Seroprevalence Program, HIV/AIDS Section, and
WHEREAS, in 1992, Esther Joo continued her work at the Illinois Department of Public Health and became the Administrator of the Epidemiology Program, HIV/AIDS Section where she developed the first statewide HIV epidemiologic profile and developed successful grant applications to CDC to support program initiatives; and
WHEREAS, in 1999, Esther Joo spent 7 years as the Director of Research at the CORE Center where she oversaw research budgets of $7 million annually and effectively allocated resources, and
WHEREAS, from 2006 to present, Esther Joo, Executive Director of the CORE Foundation, was responsible for ownership functions of the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center facility including the capital budgets and financial stewardship of the endowment fund, capital projects, acquiring and administering grants and research contracts, and securing both public and philanthropic revenues for innovative HIV prevention, education, and care coordination programs for the CORE Center, and
WHEREAS, Esther Joo has spent 35 years of her career devoted to HIV and AIDS and her lifelong work has been important to protecting the health of Cook County residents and those in the surrounding communities, and
WHEREAS, throughout her career Esther Joo has earned a reputation as an inspiring leader, known for her accessibility and generosity with her time; and
WHEREAS, besides her dedication to making the CORE Center a welcoming space for all people, she is also known for her willingness to step in and work hard at ever...
