PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING APRIL 30TH, 2023 AS DÍA DE LOS NIÑOS (CHILDREN’S DAY)
WHEREAS, Children are our future with inalienable rights. It is the responsibility of society to ensure their rights are met; and
WHEREAS, Children are citizens of the world who need emotional and physical stability and should not, ordinarily be separated from their parents and family; and
WHEREAS, Children have the right to an education, to enjoy a social life, and build their own futures; and
WHEREAS, Children have the right to food so that they will not suffer from malnutrition and die from hunger; and
WHEREAS, Children have the right to health, to be protected from illness, and to grow and become healthy adults; and
WHEREAS, Children have the right to safe drinking water and proper sanitary conditions; and
WHEREAS, Children have the right to identity by having a surname, first name, and a nationality, and
WHEREAS, Children have the right to freedom by being able to express themselves, to have opinions, to have access to information, and to participate in decisions that affect their lives; and
WHEREAS, Children have to right to protection and to live in a secure and caring environment which preserves the child’s well-being’ and
WHEREAS, all the above rights are also rights given to children who have obtained Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status; and
WHEREAS, the United States should have an established national date to give voice to children with a day of their own
WHEREAS, April 30, 2023, Día de Niño (Children’s Day) recognizes the achievements and contributions of children; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners recognizes Sunday, April 30th, 2023, as the DÍA DE LOS NIÑOS (CHILDREN’S DAY).
