Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RESOLUTION HONORING THE LATE ENTERTAINER XAVIER L?PEZ RODRIGUEZ WHEREAS, Xavier L?pez Rodr?guez, better known as the Mexican children's entertainer Chabelo, was born in Cook County on February 17th, 1935; and WHEREAS, Xavier L?pez Rodr?guez and his family settled in Mexico before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he served honorably; and WHEREAS, Xavier L?pez Rodr?guez began working in the entertainment industry and created the longest running Mexican television show in history, the variety show "En Familia con Chabelo," which ran for 48 years from 1967 to 2015; and WHEREAS, On the 30th of December 2012, Xavier L?pez Rodr?guez's show "En Familia con Chabelo," was awarded a Guinness Record for its 44 years of uninterrupted broadcast, with Chabelo being awarded a second Guiness Record for his portrayal of Chabelo for over 57 years; and WHEREAS, Xavier L?pez Rodr?guez's joyful spirit brought joy and laughter to children and adults ...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RESOLUTION HONORING THE LATE ENTERTAINER XAVIER LÓPEZ RODRIGUEZ

 

WHEREAS, Xavier López Rodríguez, better known as the Mexican children’s entertainer Chabelo, was born in Cook County on February 17th, 1935; and 

 

WHEREAS, Xavier López Rodríguez and his family settled in Mexico before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he served honorably; and

 

WHEREAS, Xavier López Rodríguez began working in the entertainment industry and created the longest running Mexican television show in history, the variety show “En Familia con Chabelo,” which ran for 48 years from 1967 to 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, On the 30th of December 2012, Xavier López Rodríguez’s show “En Familia con Chabelo,” was awarded a Guinness Record for its 44 years of uninterrupted broadcast, with Chabelo being awarded a second Guiness Record for his portrayal of Chabelo for over 57 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Xavier López Rodríguez’s joyful spirit brought joy and laughter to children and adults throughout North America; and

 

WHEREAS, Xavier López Rodríguez’s signature raspy, child-like voice helped usher in a genre of adult comics dressed as kids that became a staple on Mexican television for decades; and

 

WHEREAS, Xavier López Rodríguez encompasses the spirit of Chicano culture and modern history that has found a home in Cook County; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar, on the 27th day of April 2023, encourages all Cook County residents to celebrate the life and work of Xavier López Rodríguez and his contributions to Mexican and Mexican-American culture, entertainment, and history.
