PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION TO COMMEMORATE THE VILLAGE OF HINSDALE'S SESQUICENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS The Village of Hinsdale was once home to Native Americans of the Illini and Potawatomi tribes and at one time was known as Brush Hill; and
WHEREAS William Robbins is known as the founder of Hinsdale, platting the village in 1865, grading roads, planting trees, and building homes; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Hinsdale, located 20 miles west of downtown Chicago, was incorporated on April 1, 1873 and sits within both Cook and DuPage counties; and
WHEREAS Over the last 150 years, the Village of Hinsdale has grown from a 700-acre plot of land along the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad to a nearly 3,000-acre vibrant community with an exceptional quality of life for its 17,395 residents; and
WHEREAS The Village of Hinsdale has an extensive list of Notable People who were born or have lived in the community, and are recognized in the areas of Literature, Science, Entertainment, Arts, Business, Government and Sports; and
WHEREAS The Village of Hinsdale has a legacy of important architectural landmarks; and
WHEREAS The Hinsdale Historical Society runs the Roger & Ruth Anderson Architecture Center, Robbins Park district which advocates for the preservation of Hinsdale's historical architecture and serves as an archive and resource; and
WHEREAS The Village of Hinsdale is proud to have two National Register Historic Districts: the Historic Downtown located in the center of town and the Robbins Park district just east of downtown between Garfield Street and County Line Road, as well as between Hinsdale Avenue and Ninth Street; and
WHEREAS Five individual Village of Hinsdale buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places: the William Whitney House (142 E. First Street), the Robert and Mary Childs House (318 S. Garfield Street), the Francis Stuyvesant Peabody House (8 E. Third Street), Immanuel Hall (302 S. Grant Street) and the Orland P. ...
