PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF FALLEN CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER ANDR?S MAURICIO V?SQUEZ LASSO, WHO LOST HIS LIFE IN THE LINE OF DUTY
WHEREAS, on March 1st, 2023, 8th District Police Officer Andr?s Mauricio V?squez Lasso was fatally shot while responding to a domestic incident in the city's Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side of Chicago, and
WHEREAS, Officer V?squez Lasso, who on March 16th would have celebrated five years of serving his community as part of the Chicago Police Department, was described by his commanding officer as having a bright future ahead of him, as being a courageous officer, a dedicated public servant, a trusted partner, and a true Chicagoan, as well as a devoted husband, a beloved son and brother, a proud uncle and cousin, and a loyal friend, and
WHEREAS, Officer V?squez Lasso followed in the footsteps of many public servants in his family, dedicating his life to serving and protecting the people of the city of Chicago, and was known by his coworkers as one of the bravest and most selfless individuals they have ever known, who without hesitation was willing to put himself in harm's way to help others, and who had an unwavering commitment to his duties and his fellow officers, and
WHEREAS, Officer V?squez Lasso immigrated to Chicago from Colombia as a teenager eager to provide a better life for his mother, and
WHEREAS, the 32-year-old Officer V?squez Lasso was active on social media, often sharing his thoughts about his life, once writing that he might not change the world, but he knew he could change the world of every person through his actions, and
WHEREAS, Officer V?squez Lasso's loss is mourned by his beloved wife Milena Estepa, his family, friends, coworkers, and the community he selflessly served and protected.
