CELEBRATING JANET ALEXANDER DAVIS OF EVANSTON ON THE RENAMING OF LELAND AVENUE IN HER HONOR

WHEREAS, Janet Alexander Davis is a lifelong Evanston resident and active community member; and

WHEREAS, Janet Alexander Davis started her civil rights activism in the 1960's with activism in public schools; and

WHEREAS, she has been a longtime advocate for youth including for better education for children especially those affected by poverty; and

WHEREAS, Janet Alexander Davis has and continues to serve the community of Evanston greatly in a variety of capacities; and

WHEREAS, she has served as a Board Member at the Evanston Human Relations Commission, Evanston United Neighbors, and Habitat for Humanity: The Evanston Project; and

WHEREAS, she served as a founding member for the Evanston Youth Initiative and the West Evanston Strategic Team; and

WHEREAS, she served as a member on the Citizens for a Greener Evanston's Environmental Justice Committee and the West End Area Block Club; and

WHEREAS, in 1996, she received the Cook County 13th District Commission on Women's Issues Unsung Heroine Award; and

WHEREAS, Janet Alexander Davis has been a loyal and active member of the James B. Moran Center Board of Directors for nearly 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Janet has also received several honors in recognition of her community activism; and

WHEREAS, in 2008, she received the West End Area Block Club, Hospitality Award ; and

WHEREAS, in 2016, she received the Outstanding Citizen Award presented by the Yen Family's Grand Re-Opening of the Evanston Holiday Inn; and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Cook County Board of Commissioners that the Board does hereby offer its sincerest congratulations to Janet Alexander Davis on the renaming of Leland Avenue in Evanston after her in honor of her numerous contributions to the community; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Janet Alexander Davis.
