PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING WILLIAM LOGAN OF EVANSTON ON THE RENAMING OF MCDANIEL AVENUE AFTER HIM
WHEREAS, William Logan is a longtime Evanston resident and active community member; and
WHEREAS, he has dedicated decades to public and community service within Evanston; and
WHEREAS, William Logan holds many firsts in Evanston including the First Black Home Room President, the First Black Football Captain, and the First Black Senior Class Vice President; and
WHEREAS, William Logan joined the Evanston Police Department in 1957 and served for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, he served as a bodyguard for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. during his visit to Evanston; and
WHEREAS, he served in many positions and moved up through various ranks at the Evanston Police Department including serving as the first Black Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief of Police; and
WHEREAS, during his time at the Evanston Police Department, he implemented policies and practices to move the department toward community policing; and
WHEREAS, when he retired from the Evanston Police Department, he took a role as Director of Safety and Security at Evanston Township High School; and
WHEREAS, during his time at ETHS, he brought a new level of professionalism to the Security Department and built respect with the students instead of merely relating to them in a punitive way; and
WHEREAS, he implemented crossing guards and CPR training for staff; and
WHEREAS, William Logan is a Co-founding member of the Chessman, Evanston's oldest Black men's community organization; and
WHEREAS, William Logan is Co-founder of FAAM (Fellowship of African-American Men), a middle- school-focused basketball and cheerleading nonprofit; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Cook County Board of Commissioners that the Board does hereby offer its sincerest congratulations to William Logan on the renaming of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston after him in honor of his numerous contributions to the community...
