IN MEMORY OF JAMES W. RYAN
WHEREAS, James W. Ryan’s long legal career was exceptional for many reasons; he was one of the longest serving Assistant States Attorneys, one of the longest serving Staff Attorneys for the Circuit Court of Cook County, but it was his integrity and wisdom that made him a treasured member of the bar and the community. When he died at the age at age 81 he left behind a devoted family, countless friends, colleagues and a community enriched for having known him; and
WHEREAS, while a leader at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, James Ryan set the highest standards for integrity. During his long tenure as a Cook County Assistant States Attorney he was uniformly regarded as one who deeply respected the office and will long be remembered for his thorough work and his high ethical standards and professionalism. Above all, he will be remembered as a model of kindness and affability; and

WHEREAS, Sherman Jones was elected Mayor of the Village of Broadview in 2009 and was re-elected in 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Jones stepped down from his position in April 2017; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, the Village of Broadview has experienced many successes; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Jones led the Village through a major budget overhaul and eliminated deficits of nearly $4 million; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Village pursued innovative financial opportunities to cover much of the cost of a new fire truck and ambulance; and
WHEREAS, many of the Village’s departments were overhauled to be more efficient and cost taxpayers less money; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Jones launched the initiative to resurface 13th Avenue, which for many years went without maintenance and was a problem for the people of Broadview; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Jones has worked tirelessly for the people of Broadview and has benefitted all of Cook County through his good work.

WHEREAS, Mayor Frank Pasquale was elected mayor of the Village of Bellwood in 2001; and

WHEREAS, prior to his election, Mayor Pasquale served as a Memorial Park District commissioner for 20 years and as a village trustee for six years; and
WHEREAS, even before he served in elected office, Mayor Pasquale was a dedicated public servant having worked in education for many years; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Pasquale has notched many accomplishments for the Village of Bellwood; and
WHEREAS, among the most important of those accomplishments was the construction of an over pass on 25th Avenue that enables vehicles to pass without being tied up by railroad traffic; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Pasquale has also led an innovative program to build bigger homes in the village to attract new residents to Bellwood; and

HONORING RAY OVERTON
WHEREAS, Ray Overton was born October 27, 1926 to Arthur L. Overton and Osca C. Presley; and
WHEREAS, in February 1952, Ray married Wilma Wilks of Colp, Illinois. He was drafted into the U.S. Army eight months later and was discharged two years later with an Honorable Discharge; and
WHEREAS, in 1956, he and his wife gave birth to their first daughter, Armintha, and in 1960 their second daughter Princess was born. After his wife passed away in 1961, Ray became his daughters’ primary caregiver; and
WHEREAS, in 1961, Ray successfully started Ray Overton Studios, as a Commercial Artist in the basement of his home. He remained in business for over 50 years and was still creating promotional advertising, sign art, lettering and graphic designs until he passed; and
WHEREAS, Ray was dedicated to his community, serving as Block Club President for 25 years; and bowled in as many as five bowling leagues at one time. He was an excellent bowler, captain, league secretary and president.

WHEREAS, Northwestern has a one of the best coaches in the NCAA. Chris Collins is a former Duke guard and Duke assistant who came to Evanston in 2013.
