WHEREAS, around 4 a.m. on August 26, 2018, a devastating fire engulfed a building in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, a tragic loss of life occurred that day as ten children were the fatal victims of this fire; and
WHEREAS, the children - Amayah Lenora Almaraz, 3 months; Alanni Juanita Ayala, 3; Gialanni Angela Ayala, 5; Ariel Rose Garcia, 5; Giovanni Christopher Ayala, 10; Xavier Isiah Contreras, 11; Nathan Guadalupe Contreras, 13; Adrian Hernandez, 14; Cesar Louis Contreras, 14; and Victor F. Mendoza, 16 - were family and friends; and
WHEREAS, there has been a tremendous amount of support for the families of the children by people across Cook County and the rest of the nation; and
WHEREAS, we honor the service and actions of first responders, law enforcement personnel, volunteers, and countless others who have assisted the families of the victims; and

HONORING THE LIFE AND MEMORY OF DESIREE LYNN TATE
WHEREAS, Desiree Lynn Tate was born on May 8, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Bertha and Oscar Tate; and
WHEREAS, Desiree was the sixth child and only daughter of Bertha and Oscar Tate, who, before their treasured daughter was born, had had five sons: Bob, Raynard, Pete, Freddie and Greg Tate; and
WHEREAS, Desiree was born and raised in the Washington Park community and was a proud graduate of Lindblom Math and Science Academy; and
WHEREAS, Desiree went on to graduate from Indiana University and earn an MBA from DePaul University; and
WHEREAS, while Desiree began her career in the corporate world, she was soon drawn to the social and political issues of the time, namely the representation and empowerment of Chicago's African American community; and
WHEREAS, in 1982, she volunteered on Congressman Harold Washington's historic mayoral campaign and, determined, dove into critical community work, one that would see Harold Washington victorious on April 12, 1983; and

WHEREAS, East Lake View Neighbors' is a community organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood through active citizenship, fostering a sense of community and charitable works; and,
WHEREAS, East Lake View Neighbors’ boundaries stretch from Addison Street north to Irving Park, and from Clark Street east to Lake Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, East Lake View Neighbors meets monthly to discuss community happenings, including new business openings, public safety, volunteer opportunities and more; and,
WHEREAS, 13 residents comprise of East Lake View Neighbors’ Board of Directors, who are pulled from a cross-section of the community, including residents, business owners, and employees; and,
WHEREAS, on September 23, 2018, East Lake View Neighbors will host its 20th annual ‘Oktoberfest’ celebration; and,
WHEREAS, roughly 300 neighbors attend the annual event at Murphy’s Bleachers on 3655 N Sheffield Ave, and the event raises money for the local co | approve | Pass |

WHEREAS, on Saturday August 11, 2018 Coach Robert “Rahim” Bisbee hosted the 13h Annual Moran Park Back to School and Basketball Clinic which has served over 5,000 youth to date; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bisbee was raised on 57th Aberdeen and his love for the Englewood community has allowed him to work with young people on and off the basketball court across the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bisbee attended Tilden High School and is a former member of the Illinois Army National Guard; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bisbee has been employed by the Chicago Park District for 22 years and is an active union steward with SEIU Local 73 where he currently serves as Park Supervisor at Homan Square in the North Lawndale community; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bisbee is a champion, leader and mentor to youth from the Englewood community and Chicago at large
